About Gateway
Gateway is the neighbourhood regeneration agency charged with revitalising Hull's housing market and transforming city neighbourhoods over the next 10-15 years.
We are responsible for bidding for funding from the government's housing market renewal fund, attracting additional public/private sector investment and delivering the plans to revive Hull's housing market.
Our intervention area covers the whole of the city of Hull, which saw a population decline of 7% between 1991 and 2001.
By 2020 we aim to have:
- a stable population in the city of Hull;
- vacancy rates at the regional average;
- house prices on a par with the regional average;
- a residential offer to suit people from all walks of life and that supports a more sustainable economy in the city;
- attractive and sustainable neighbourhoods, backed by schools which perform at or above the regional average and crime levels no higher than other comparable cities.
To date Gateway has secured over £150 million of government funding| and is delivering an ambitious long term programme to revitalise Hull's housing market and create great places to live in the city.
Progress includes:
- 293 new homes completed or on site in east Hull|;
- 39 new homes on site in west Hull|;
- over 900 refurbished homes; completed or in progress in Newington and St Andrew's, west Hull| and a further 2,000 more announced;
- acquisition of homes and commercial property in Newington and St Andrew's, West Hull and Ings and Preston Road, East Hull - to pave the way for new homes, community facilities and open spaces;
- delivery of a range of initiatives to support communities through the changes;
- recruitment of private sector developers to work in long-term partnerships, bringing in an additional investment of £200 million in Hull's neighbourhoods over the next ten years;
- planning work for the next stages of regeneration in consultation with our partners and communities.
