East Hull

Gateway's strategic regeneration area in east Hull is the Holderness Road Corridor. Action is happening first in Ings and Preston Road, where a new generation of energy-efficient homes are improving the quality and choice of housing.

The long-term aim is to encourage existing residents to stay and new people to move into these areas by creating new, modern homes for sale, rent and shared ownership in well-managed, attractive neighbourhoods with high quality local services, open spaces and amenities.

At Preston Road, the first phase of new house building has been completed, close to the estate's award-winning village centre, with 107 modern, energy efficient homes. Environmental improvements have also been delivered to a further 85 homes fronting onto Preston Road.

A scheme to demolish 260 sub-standard 'Wild' houses to the east of the Holderness Drain on Preston Road has been completed. Part of the site is to be the location for a new secondary school under the Building Schools for the Future| programme. Work is expected to get underway in January 2010 and is planned for completion by September 2011.

At Ings, Gateway is also demolishing 260 sub-standard 'Caspon' houses to the east of Mitcham Road to make way for new homes. To date, 59 new homes have also been completed and the next phase of 51 homes is now on site.

Neighbourhood management initiatives are also under way in both areas to tackle issues such as crime and anti social behaviour.
