£3M SECURED FOR EAST HULL HOUSING DEVELOPMENT
Over £3m of additional funding has been secured from the Homes and Communities Agency to deliver a range of affordable housing on Preston Road, east Hull.
The funding has been secured from the national affordable housing programme by regeneration agency Gateway and Synergy Housing Solutions (part of the Chevin Housing Group). It will allow work to get underway on over 70 new eco-friendly homes the south of John Hadland park, between College Grove and Cambridge Grove.
The development will incorporate a mix of affordable housing aimed at helping existing residents remain in their local community, as well as encouraging others into the area.Properties will be available for shared ownership and affordable rent, including some elderly persons units.
This is Gateway's second new development in the Preston Road area and follows the successful Ellerby Grove scheme, where 107 new homes were built. All homes are now occupied.
Chris Hilton, development director at Gateway, said: "I am delighted with the success of the funding bid, which will enable us to continue to deliver the regeneration programme in this key residential area. This investment is absolutely vital to improving life for existing residents and ensuring that our communities thrive and prosper in the future."
Cllr Rick Welton, Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Housing Strategy at Hull City Council, said: "This will support and continue the regeneration of the whole area and produce tangible results at a time when similar schemes across the country are grinding to a halt. It is a clear sign that Gateway, Hull City Council and the Homes & Communities Agency are all pulling together in the same direction with the common goal of making Hull a more attractive proposition for residents and investors alike."
Steve Close, Chief Executive of Chevin Housing Group, said: "Working with Gateway, Hull City Council and the Preston Road Neighbourhood Development Company, the regeneration of the Preston Road area is a long term commitment. This show of support from the Homes and Community Agency is an endorsement of the excellent partnership working which continues to improve the quality of life for residents."
A planning application for the site is due to be submitted to Hull City Council in November. Work is expected to start on site in March 2010.
This development is part of Gateway's multi million pound plan to transform the Holderness Road Corridor over the next 10-15 years. Proposals include thousands of new and refurbished homes, improved green spaces, frontage improvements, improved pedestrian and cycle linkages and revitalised community facilities.
