GATEWAY'S CHIEF EXECUTIVE ANNOUNCES RETIREMENT
Gateway, the regeneration agency responsible for reviving Hull's housing market, has begun the search for a new chief. This comes after the current incumbent, Janet Whipps, announced her retirement after over four years in the role.
Formally appointed as chief executive in the autumn of 2007 after joining Gateway on an interim basis in May 2005, Janet has overseen significant process at the Pathfinder, putting in place a deliverable housing market renewal strategy, supported by politicians, communities, funders and other stakeholders.
Since Janet took to the helm at Gateway, hundreds of homes have been built or refurbished, and long term plans long term plans to transform neighbourhoods in east and west Hull are in place, and the programme is acting as a catalyst for many integrated regeneration programmes across the city.
Stuart Whyte, chair of Gateway's Board, said: "It has been a pleasure to work alongside Janet. The energy, experience and enthusiasm she has displayed in her time with us has been an inspiration and has resulted in a number of significant achievements. Work in our intervention areas in east and west Hull has seen major progress under Janet's stewardship and she leaves Gateway in great shape to continue to make major strides forward. I would like to take this opportunity, on behalf of myself and everyone at Gateway, to thank Janet for all her hard work and wish her a long and happy retirement."
Janet began a career as a planner after graduating from Strathclyde University in 1974. After moving to Hull in 1982 she worked in various roles within Hull City Council's Housing Department before joining Gateway. During her time in Hull Janet has played a leading role in bringing forward many major regeneration programmes, including the North Hull Housing Action Trust and the regeneration of Gipsyville.
With particular expertise in recruiting for executive level positions within the housing sector, recruitment consultancy Campbell Tickell has started the search for Janet's replacement.
