Pauline Rimmer was against demolition from the word go. She had lived in her home on Hawthorn Avenue for 39 years and wanted to stay. So she attended every meeting and filled in every form in opposition. Now, she says, her attitude is completely different.

They quickly sorted out an appointment with a surveyor and after that we started looking in earnest and began to use the services that were on offer. "My attitude to the whole process has changed. It's a great thing! With the money I got for my old home and the money for giving up the old place and a relocation loan, I was able to buy a £100,000 home that I love and will stay in for the rest of my life.
"After 39 years in my old home, I can honestly say I don't miss it and, after all the protests, would happily say to anyone thinking of doing the same... Go for it!"
