West Hull
A major regeneration programme is under way in Newington and St. Andrew's, west Hull, where new and refurbished homes are just the first step to creating a thriving and popular place to live within easy reach of the city centre.
Our aim is to create a thriving and vibrant neighbourhood, with a variety of housing that combines the best of the past with something new and exciting for the future. Alongside excellent community facilities, schools and open spaces, this will transform this historic community, making it a place where people from all walks of life will choose to live.
Gateway and its partners have kick-started the regeneration of Newington and St. Andrew's with schemes including:
- £12 million development of over 100 new, eco-friendly homes at Woodcock Street;
- refurbishment of over 900 homes at Melrose Street, Plane Street, Sandringham Street, St. George's Road, Alliance Avenue, Carew Street and part of De La Pole Avenue;
- acquisition of homes and commercial properties, west of Hawthorn Avenue to make way for the development of new homes on the former Amy Johnson school site;
- community Action Box initiative to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour;
- £2 million Townscape Heritage Initiative to repair and regenerate historic properties in the Boulevard/Coltman Street area.
