Work set to get underway at Amy Johnson
Gateway has welcomed the announcement of £4.4m from the Homes and Communities Agency to fast track the first phase of 148 new homes; 60 for rent and 88 for sale on the former Amy Johnson school site.
The £80m development of 600 new homes is a key part of Gateway's ambitious plans to transform Newington and St Andrew's.
A planning application for the site has recently been submitted to Hull City Council, and if approved, work will start in spring 2010.
The 30-acre site is the largest development in the area and over the next eight years Gateway and its development partners Keepmoat Homes and Places for People are aiming to create a unique and sustainable neighbourhood that will appeal to both existing and new residents.
In addition to the new homes, the development will include a new public square, a large formal central park and allotments. Public art willbe integrated into the deisgn of the homes and opens spaces, withscheme artist Chris Tipping taking his inspiration from the story of Hull-born aviator Amy Johnson's 10,000 mile flight to Darwin.
